The OPERA experiment at the European Underground Gran Sasso Laboratory (LNGS)

The OPERA experiment at the European Underground Gran Sasso Laboratory (LNGS)

The OPERA (Oscillation Project with Emulsion-tRacking Apparatus) experiment OPERA is a massive lead/emulsion target for a long-baseline neutrino oscillation search.

The experiment was built to perform a tau-neutrinos appearance measurement, in the parameter region indicated by the atmospheric neutrino anomaly. It exploits nuclear emulsion for the unambiguous detection of the decay of the tau produced in
charged current interactions.

OPERA will run at theGran Sasso underground laboratory on the CNGS beam.
